Military time chart with minutes
Military time uses minutes 00–59, just like a 12-hour clock. Keep the minutes and change only the hour: 3:08 PM is 1508, and 3:45 PM is 1545. This chart uses hour 15 (3 PM); the same minute suffix works with any hour.

Clock minutes are different from decimal work hours. 1530 means 3:30 PM, not 15.30 hours. A duration of 30 minutes is 0.5 hours. For work-hour totals and decimal hours, use the time card calculator.
How to read and say military time
Read the first two digits as the hour and the last two as the minutes. For a whole hour, say the hour followed by “hundred hours”; for other times, say the hour and minute values. The converter shows an example reading for your input.
- 0900 = 9:00 AMzero nine hundred hours
- 1508 = 3:08 PMfifteen zero eight hours
- 1545 = 3:45 PMfifteen forty-five hours
Keep the leading zero for hours before 10: 0900 is 9 AM. Noon is 1200. Use 0000 for midnight at the start of a day; 2400 can mark the end of a stated day.
How the calculation works
Military time writes a 24-hour clock as four digits: the first two are the hour and the last two are the minutes. Hours 0000 through 1159 are AM, 1200 is noon, and for 1300 through 2359 you subtract 12 from the hour. The minutes stay the same.
To convert the other way, keep 1:00 AM through 11:59 AM and add a leading zero when needed. Write 12:00 AM as 0000. Keep 12:00 PM through 12:59 PM as hour 12; for 1:00 PM through 11:59 PM, add 12 to the hour. Military notation normally omits the colon, while a 24-hour clock may show one.
This converter changes the clock format only. It does not convert between time zones or adjust a time for daylight-saving changes.
Try an example
1500 has hour 15 and minutes 00. Subtract 12 from 15, so 1500 is 3:00 PM. In the other direction, add 12 to the hour in 8:45 PM: 8 + 12 = 20, so the result is 2045. Noon is 1200; midnight at the start of a day is 0000.
How to use this calculator
- Choose Military to 12-hour or 12-hour to Military. Enter military time as digits such as 1500 or with a colon such as 15:00; for the other direction, set the hour, minute and AM or PM.
- Read the live conversion and its plain-English explanation. The minute value stays the same in either direction; use Copy when you want the displayed result elsewhere.
- Use the common-time shortcuts or the full chart to check another hour. The current-time panel follows your device clock, and the converter changes clock notation only—it does not convert time zones.
Common questions
What is 1500 in military time?
1500 military time is 3:00 PM. The hour is 15, so subtract 12; the final two digits, 00, remain the minutes.
What is 2100 in military time?
2100 military time is 9:00 PM. Subtract 12 from hour 21 and keep the 00 minutes unchanged.
What is 1700 in military time?
1700 military time is 5:00 PM. Subtract 12 from hour 17 and keep the 00 minutes unchanged.
What is 1800 in military time?
1800 military time is 6:00 PM. Subtract 12 from hour 18 and keep the 00 minutes unchanged.
What is 1600 in military time?
1600 military time is 4:00 PM. Subtract 12 from hour 16 and keep the 00 minutes unchanged.
What is 2200 in military time?
2200 military time is 10:00 PM. Subtract 12 from hour 22 and keep the 00 minutes unchanged.

2300 military time is 11:00 PM. Subtract 12 from hour 23 and keep the 00 minutes unchanged.
What is 8 PM in military time?
8:00 PM is 2000 in military time. Add 12 to the PM hour, giving hour 20, then append the two-digit minutes.
Are 0000 and 2400 both midnight?
Both represent 12:00 AM, but they mark different boundaries. 0000 is midnight at the start of a day; 2400 can mark midnight at the end of a stated day. This tool accepts both, while a 12:00 AM input converts to 0000 unless you explicitly enter 2400.
How do I convert a PM time to military time?
For 1:00 PM through 11:59 PM, add 12 to the hour and keep the minutes. For example, 6:25 PM becomes 1825. Noon is the exception: 12:25 PM stays 1225.
How do minutes work in military time?
Minutes remain the final two digits and do not change during conversion. For example, 1545 is 3:45 PM, and 7:08 AM is 0708. Valid minutes run from 00 through 59.
Does military time use a colon?
Four-digit military notation normally omits the colon, so 3:45 PM is written 1545. A 24-hour clock often shows 15:45. This converter accepts either form and shows both variants.
What military time is it right now?
The current-time panel shows your device's local clock in military and 12-hour formats and refreshes each minute. It reflects the time configured on your device; it is not an official time source or a time-zone converter.
Does this convert between time zones?
No. The tool rewrites one clock reading between four-digit military notation and 12-hour AM/PM notation. It does not change the underlying moment, location, date, UTC offset or daylight-saving rule.
